White Tea health benefits have been the stuff of legend for thousands of years. Only recently have scientific studies been performed on White Tea, but the results have been astounding. New studies are constantly being performed on White Tea and it is believed that even more discoveries are awaiting scientists.
White Tea’s antibacterial qualities
New York’s Pace University have recently concluded studies that indicate one of White Tea health benefits includes the ability to slow the growth of the bacteria that causes Staphylococcus infections, Streptococcus infections, and pneumonia. It was also discovered that White Tea is more effective in deactivating bacterial viruses than Green Tea. White Tea Extract added to toothpaste enhances their anti-microbial effects. According to Milton Schiffenbauer, Ph.D., a professor at Pace University, Although Green Tea has been shown to stimulate the human body’s immune system, White Tea has been shown to actually destroy the organisms that destroy the disease.
White Tea’s use as a potential Anticarcinogen
Researchers at Oregon State University’s Linus Pauling Institute tested four types of White Tea for their ability to inhibit bacterial mutations. It was discovered that White Tea health benefits were more effective than Green Teas at inhibiting mutations in bacteria. White Tea contains many polyphenols and some varieties have higher concentrations than Green Teas brewed in the same conditions. Rats were used in the study and White Tea was added to their drinking water for up to 8 weeks. A second group was given the same amount of caffeine alone. During the third and fourth week of the study, the rats were given the carcinogen PhIP. After two weeks of giving the PhIP and prior to the introduction of the carcinogen, enzyme changes were detected in their livers. White Tea was slightly more effective than the caffeine alone. It was discovered that the carcinogen was metabolized and detoxified quicker in the rats who were consuming the White Tea. Although tests have not been conducted on humans, the results of this study have shown that White Tea can block damage to DNA. The researchers are planning further studies with White Tea on animals and humans.
White Tea Antioxidants
Free Radicals are molecules which are linked to diseases and signs of aging, including cancers, wrinkles, and dark spots. Antioxidants are molecules which are capable of preventing, or at least slowing down the oxidation of cells. Oxidation can produce free radicals, which start chain reactions which damage cells and cause the above mentioned problems. The high levels of antioxidants found in White Tea also promote dental health and the fight against the weakening of bones. People who experience pain in their joints are advised to drink four to five cups of White Tea every day to help alleviate pain and other symptoms associated with bone problems.
