The set of four small zisha teacups are perfect for Chinese gongfu tea. They were crafted in Yixing, China's premiere zisha manufacturing area. Each cup is decorated with one of four plants, which are known as the Four Friends, or the Four Gentlemen. They are the Orchid, Bamboo. Chrysanthemum, and Plum. They are called the four friends because each of these plants have characteristics that resemble humans. One grows in difficult weather, one needs constant care, one is strong and tall, and one is proud and beautiful. They are a favorite subject with Chinese artists and have been used since the Song Dynasty (960-1279). This is a beautiful set and would enhance any tea session.
